Sydney Hotel Advice From A Local Sydney Tour Guide.

If you’re planning on visiting Sydney soon, and I really hope you are, then you will no doubt be spending a lot of time researching Sydney hotel advice for your visit. There are some excellent Sydney hotel options available and this post will give you a local perspective to help with your choice.

Okay, so your flights are booked, the dates are set and you’re spending countless hours on TripAdvisor trying to decide where you are going to stay during your visit to Sydney. Here’s a local’s perspective on Sydney’s best hotels, with a focus on location to help you make your choice. If it’s luxury Sydney hotels that you are looking for, there are some great options within the CBD with exceptional hotels like Park Hyatt, Hilton, Intercontinental, Four Seasons and Shangri-La.

If it’s views of the stunning Sydney Harbour that you are after, then there a number of options ranging from 5-star luxury to family and affordable. Closest to the harbour is the perfectly-positioned Park Hyatt Hotel which is directly opposite the iconic Sydney Opera House, in the shadow of the Harbour Bridge, and has great access to The Rocks precinct, harbour foreshore, Circular Quay and the city centre. Added to that, it is famous for exceptional service, dining and rooftop swimming pool. With limited rooms, it has an intimate and truly luxurious feel.

In the same part of the city (The Rocks) is another couple of exceptional offerings with the Four Seasons and Shangri-La hotels. The Four Seasons is slightly closer to the water and Circular Quay, but with both being high-rise-style hotels, you will have the possibility of amazing birds-eye views of Sydney and the harbour.

Also very close to the water and boasting an exceptional reputation, is the Intercontinental Sydney which places you across the road from the Royal Botanic Garden and a short walk to the Sydney Opera House. The Intercontinental is the choice of many VIPs who visit Sydney, and has an amazing executive lounge on the top floor with one of the best views of the Harbour that you will find.

Just a few streets over on Loftus St in the Sandstone Precinct, is the elegant Capella housed inside the heritage-listed Department of Education building and an artful example of fusing heritage and contemporary design. With restaurants, bars and museums right nearby, and Circular Quay just a short walk away, it’s a great way to immerse yourself in both historical and modern Sydney.

If shopping and being in the heart of the city (downtown) are your priority, then the Hilton, Fullerton and Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park are all be excellent choices. They are all exceptional hotels and all will give you close access to local hotspots like Hyde Park, The Queen Victoria Building, Pitt Street Mall as well as an array of high-end luxury labels and boutiques. For something a little different, the eclectic W Sydney in Darling Harbour is a great option, with its striking architecture known as ‘The Ribbon’ (sitting atop IMAX Sydney), modern marine chic and boldly designed interiors, and even a bar in each room to mix your own cocktails. Take in the spectacular view from the 2-level rooftop bar or heated infinity pool, in a 5-star hotel conveniently located a short walk to thriving restaurant precinct, Darling Quarter and the city centre.

Or if you’d prefer to escape the hustle-and-bustle of the city, you can stay at the grand Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay, situated in this exclusive, über stylish harbourside enclave. A ten-minute drive from the city or 25-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay, Double Bay is also one of Sydney’s premier destinations for luxury shopping. There are many other 5-star Sydney hotel options, and of course, reviews can be read until your eyes hurt, but for most travellers it is location that forms a big part of their hotel decision and which can place you closer to the Sydney attractions that interest you.
